Cody Deaner recently surprised one of his most loyal fans, Christopher Monahan, with a donation to a summer deaf camp that he attends every summer. Cody wrote the following on his Facebook and Instagram pages about the experience: "What a special moment... This past Friday in Collingwood at a Rock Solid Wrestling event, I had the honour of having Christopher, his father Mark, and Bob Rumball’s son Derek as my special guests. I presented Christopher with a $700 cheque for The Bob Rumball Foundation’s Rumball Camp of The Deaf - which was the amount we raised in April through the “Giv’er for Charity” campaign. I surprised them by extending the campaign into May and we’ve already increased that amount to over $1000 thanks to all the amazing wrestling fans at my events this weekend. I brought my guests into the ring so I could introduce Christopher to the fans. I’ve told the story where Christopher honoured me with a sign language name. So I decided I wanted to honour & surprise Christopher myself... I decided to get the crowd to chant Christopher’s name ... in sign language. To say his name, you simply hold your hand up making a “C” & shake your hand back and forth. With Christopher in the ring & by my side, the sold out crowd silently raised their hands in the air, made a “C” and shook their hands. The look on Christopher’s face was priceless (as you can see from the picture). Mark told me afterward it brought him to tears. Christopher then surprised ME with a message he’d been practicing all month with his teachers and thanked me, Rock Solid Wrestling, and wrestling fans everywhere for their generous donations to the “Giv’er for Charity” campaign... and Mark even presented me with an amazing, personalized, appreciation trophy. Now it was my turn to be brought to tears. I’ve had a few days to think & reflect on these moments. I’ve accomplished many things in my career. But it’s moments like this that mean more than anything to me. The smile on Christopher’s face means more to me than any championship belt I’ve ever won. I’ve come to realize... I care much more what will be said in my eulogy than what is written on my resume. Thank you Christopher & Mark for the awesome people you are. And thank you Derek & everyone at the Bob Rumball Foundation for all the amazing work you do. This weekend is one this small-town kid will never forget. :) Sincerely, Cody Deaner" To learn more about the "Giv'er for Charity" campaign, visit: www.codydeaner.com/news/cody-deaner-launches-the-giver-for-charity-campaign Photos courtesy of @shootingtheindies on Instagram. Earlier this month, Cody Deaner hand-delivered the $640 raised in March for the Pedaling Away Age fund through his "Giv'er for Charity" campaign. He delivered the money to Isabelle's son, Wayne, and they took this picture in front of Isabelle's old room at the Exeter Villa Retirement Home.
Cody wrote the following concerning the visit on his Facebook page: "I had the honour and privilege last week to hand-deliver the $640 raised by the “Giv’er for Charity” campaign for the “Pedalling Away Age” fund at the Exeter Villa Retirement Home in honour of the late Isabelle Becker. I met Isabelle’s son Wayne & his wife Carol Rose at the home & we took this picture outside Isabelle’s old bedroom window. I just returned home from speaking at the Spring Ontario Student Leadership Conference in Kingston. While there, I was able to share my story of Isabelle with some youth and tell them of the amazing woman that Isabelle was. Isabelle’s spirit lives on in her family & friends and it is so wonderful that her friends at the home will now be able to enjoy their wheelchair bicycle that was purchased by the wonderful community in Exeter, Ontario through the Pedalling Away Age fund. A previous story about Isabelle can be read here: https://www.facebook.com/cody.deaner/posts/1863213790380173 “Giv’er for Charity” details: http://www.codydeaner.com/…/cody-deaner-launches-the-giver-… Cody Deaner started the "Giv'er for Charity" campaign back in February. The campaign has raised money for Special Olympics, Pedaling Away Age, and Rumball Children's Camp for the Deaf.
Cody made the following announcement on his Facebook page: Due to the great support from fans & the excitement from the The Bob Rumball Foundation for the Deaf... I have decided to extend the fundraising with the “Giv’er for Charity” campaign for the Rumball Camp of The Deaf into May! Christopher & his father travelled to Smash Wrestling yesterday to take in the action. London was extremely supportive of the cause and many made generous donations to the campaign. As you can see, Christopher was very happy to snap a photo with me and Tyson Dux. Another reason I am extending the campaign is I will be defending my Canadian Heavyweight for Rock Solid Wrestling on May 11 in Collingwood, Ontario. We have invited a representative from the Bob Rumball Foundation as well as Christopher & his father to attend as special guests. We will be presenting them a cheque with the funds we have raised thus far and also collect more donations from the wonderful community in Collingwood who always show amazing support when a worthy cause is involved. I’m excited to see how much more money we can raise for this amazing kid’s summer camp in the month of May. Online donations can be made directly to the camp in honour of Christopher Monahan at https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx… For "Giv’er for Charity" details click HERE On April 28th, in Timmins, ON, Rock Solid Wrestling made history as it was the first independent wrestling company in Canada to air a LIVE broadcast on cable television.
In the main event, Cody Deaner successfully defended his newly won Canadian Heavyweight Championship against Tornado. Cody won the match using his patented DDT finishing maneuver. The show was a testament to an amazing production crew at Eastlink TV and a dedicated roster of Rock Solid Wrestling talent. Much could go wrong on live TV, but the show went off without a hitch and was extremely well-received by Eastlink TV subscribers. On Thursday, April 26th, in front of a packed, standing room only crowd at East Elgin Secondary School in Aylmer, Ontario, Cody Deaner won the Canadian Heavyweight Championship title in the main event match-up against Tyler Tirva.
The event was co-promoted by East Elgin Secondary School and Rock Solid Wrestling as a charity fundraiser for East Elgin's Relay for Life campaign. As a former student of East Elgin, the community showed up full of excitement and anticipation for the big title fight. The event had a pre-show barbeque and had an opportunity for the fans to meet the wrestlers and get autographs. In the end, as the crowd came to its feet, Cody Deaner hit his finishing move, the DDT, and pinned Tyler Tirva to become the Canafdian Heavyweight Champion. After the match, Cody took the microphone and dedicated the match and the win to those who he claimed were the "true champions," those who have courageously fought the painful fight against cancer. Cody wrote the following message to fans and the school on his Facebook page: "A HUGE thank you to all the amazing staff & students at East Elgin Secondary School for a very memorable event last night. Thank you Thames Valley District School Board for thinking “outside the box” & bringing Rock Solid Wrestling to Aylmer to help raise $ for East Elgin Relay for Life! #ProudNewChampion #RelayForLife" Cody Deaner recently spoke with the London Free Press about how important it was to him to return to his old high school of East Elgin Secondary School to perform in front of his family, friends, and former teachers.
Cody told Ryan Pyette of the London Free Press, "There are a lot of people I've gone to school with or worked with that have always wanted to see me wrestle and finally, they'll get the chance." The Rock Solid Wrestling event is part of a fundraiser for the school's Relay for Life campaign. East Elgin Secondary School decided to put on a unique event to bring the community together and raise money.
