On Oct 14th, at a #SoldOut Border City Wrestling event at St. Clair College in Windsor, ON, I had the honor & privilege to team up with Rey Mysterio. Like so many wrestling fans from my generation, I grew up a huge fan of Rey Mysterio. To share a ring with him was both exciting & humbling. Exciting because we got to stand together in front a jam-packed arena while fans chanted for both a special Ontario version of a 619 ... the "519" AND ... a "DDT." And humbling, because of what Rey told the audience after our match. After the match, both Santino and I got to get on the mic & express our gratitude to Rey for coming to Ontario. And when Rey took the mic, he asked the crowd if they felt the energy we brought to the ring together as a team and then told the crowd: "I think I found myself a new tag team partner." I have been so blessed the last number of years to get to share the ring with many of my childhood heroes. To be treated as their equal is both surreal and truly humbling. I will share with you the same thing I told Rey privately after the show. Rey Mysterio is the hardest working and easiest to work with superstar I've had the opportunity to share the ring with. You are a true class act, Rey. Here's to us dropping some more 619s & DDTs in the future! Sincerely, Cody Deaner" Cody Deaner wins "London City Riot" match in front of a standing room only crowd at Smash Wrestling10/3/2017
On Sunday, October 1st, Cody Deaner defeated "Hacker" Scotty O'Shea in a no-DQ street fight dubbed a "London City Riot" match at Smash Wrestling's "Fight Knight" event at the London City Music Hall. Cody Deaner insisted on this riotous match after Scotty O'Shea sucker-punched Deaner on the first event held at the London City Music Hall, and then low-blowed him in their match at the London City Music Hall's second inaugural event. The "London City Riot" match main-evented a sold out, standing room only event in front of a crowd who were in awe as they saw O'Shea and Deaner fight all over the building. Highlights included a spinebuster through a stack of chairs, Deaner diving off the stage through a table onto O'Shea, O'Shea taking the ring apron and padding off to reveal the steel and wood under the ring, and ultimately a win for Deaner via a DDT onto a giant stack of chairs and O'Shea's keyboard. Cody Deaner had the following to say on his Facebook and Instagram pages: "#PackedHouse & #StandingRoomOnly last night at Smash Wrestling at the London Music Hall The positive feedback I've received from fans on my #LondonCityRiot match vs. Scotty O'Shea has been overwhelming. One lifelong wrestling fan told me today that it was by far the best match they'd ever seen live. If I could bottle the energy in that room last night & sell it, I'd be a rich redneck. The amount of support shown at the #MerchTable was off the charts. Thanks for the support London. The #DeanerDynasty is STRONG in the #ForestCity. Keep givin'er!" |
