Cody Deaner defends the Canadian Heavyweight Championship alongside Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

On May 12th and 13th, in Hanover and Collingwood, Ontario, Cody Deaner successfully defended his Canadian Heavyweight Championship at Rock Solid Wrestling events. 

The weekend was made extra special as Cody Deaner had WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat in his corner.

Cody took to his Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to reflect on the amazing weekend, and had the following to say:

"Wow. What a weekend.For 2 straight nights I defended my Canadian Heavyweight Championship in the main event for jammed packed Rock Solid Wrestling events.
And in my corner as my manager each night was a man I grew up idolizing - Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.
They say you should never meet your idols. Not only did I get to meet one of mine, I got to work alongside him, and learn from him.
I think I learned more in the past two days from Ricky Steamboat than I have in the last year. And I know for a fact, the rest of the Rock Solid crew can say the same thing. Especially after the impromptu hour long wrestling clinic Ricky did for the boys before the show. His love and passion for the business is so clearly evident and is truly inspirational.
To top it all off, Steamboat praised my work and my matches. Talk about a confidence booster. When arguably one of the best professional wrestlers ever on the planet praises you and tells you how great you are, man ... that feeling can't be beat.
You can see in this video, The Dragon is in my corner to help me overcome the odds in my match versus Tornado. 30 seconds after this video was taken, I gave Ricky a big sweaty hug in the middle of the ring and said, "I can't thank you enough for the last two days, Ricky."
And do you know what one of the best wrestlers in history responded with? "No, thank you Cody. Thanks for just letting me be a part of your match."
Ricky Steamboat's humility is mind blowing to me. I am so inspired by his passion for this artform and the way he conducts himself in the locker room and those around him.
Ricky taught me so much this weekend. He taught me so much wrestling psychology and in ring work it's insane ... BUT ... I think I learned just as much (or more) by just watching how he conducts himself, treats people, and attacks life from a position of class and humility.
Thank you Ricky Steamboat for everything you taught myself and the Rock Solid Wrestling crew this weekend. And thanks for doing it all as just "one of the boys."
