Cody Deaner celebrating 40 years of support for Special Olympics at St. Thomas Sports Spectacular
As previously announced on CodyDeaner.com, Cody Deaner will be a special guest at the St. Thomas Sports Spectacular on Jan 25, 2018.
It will be a special night, not just because of the special guests who will be in attendance, but because of the special cause the night is for. St. Thomas Sports Spectacular will be celebrating 40 years of support to the local St. Thomas Special Olympics.
"This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart," Cody said. "I've had the privilege of wrestling on many events that have gone on to raise a lot of money for Special Olympics. And I've met many proud Olympians over the years who have told me of all of their accomplishments. I love hearing their stories and seeing how happy and proud they are of what they've done in their respective sports. I'm looking forward to meeting more Olympians in January."
The Head Table at this year's event will be Roberto Alomar, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, Gordon "Red" Berenson, and Mike Wilner.

"I'm extremely excited to be a part of this year's OSLC in Kingston," Cody said. "Eager and motivated youth leaders from all across the province will be in attendance. This will be the largest speaking conference I've spoken at to date."

The OSLC website states: "The Ontario Student Leadership Conference (OSLC) is excited to announce the 3rd OSLC Spring conference to be held at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario on May 14 & 15, 2018. After 40 years of exceptional leadership conferences and many requests from the Eastern part of the province we are running our third annual regional conference.
OSLC Spring will have the same level of professional program and speakers that student leaders and their teacher advisers have come to expect from the Provincial OSLC conference each November."
"I'm pumped to be teaming up with Youth Leaderships Camps Canada," Cody said. "I think YLCC and and The Deaner make one heck of a tag team!"

Cody Deaner recently shared a heartfelt message about a young fan on his Facebook and Instagram pages. Here is his story:
"This is Christopher. And I have a pretty cool story about him.I met Christopher & his family at a Crossfire Wrestling show a number of months ago and wrote a post about how moved I was by Christopher & his brother & their huge smiles despite their circumstances. Christopher is deaf and can only communicate through sign. His brother is confined to a wheelchair. Despite this, they both have contagious smiles.
Last night, Christopher’s father told me Christopher wanted to show me something. His dad asked him, “Who is this Christopher?” Christopher held up his hands and made the sign you see us making in this picture.
I looked at his father for explanation. I wasn’t prepared for what he was going to tell me...
“In sign language, you can either spell someone’s name... OR ... there can be a symbol for your name. BUT, a person who signs has to GIVE YOU your sign name. Christopher has given you this sign name.”
It’s ingenious really. It’s a mix of the rock ‘n roll hand sign I do when I go to the ring & the letter of my first name.
“Now when you meet someone who signs,” his father said, “you can tell them this is your name.”
This completely floored me. To know I made enough of an impression on Christopher that he honoured me with a sign name almost brought me to tears.
I thanked Christopher and his father and insisted we take this picture together. Now when I look at it I can smile seeing Christopher’s smile and feel the honour of being named by this special boy all over again.
I’ve preached this to my fellow independent wrestlers a lot the last few years, and moments like this really bring it into focus... realize that your fans look up to you. Give them your best and you’ll be surprised what they give back to you.
I know last night, I was.
Thank you Christopher. I can’t wait to meet someone else who signs and I can proudly show them my name and tell them about you.
Keep smilin’ buddy.
