One year ago, Ethan couldn't walk on his own and could barely communicate. On May 27th, in Bracebridge, Ontario, he was walking around the wrestling ring and giving Cody Deaner a special personal message.
Read Cody Deaner's story below (from his official FACEBOOK PAGE): "Last night ended up being a VERY special night. Awhile back, Rock Solid Wrestling learned about a young boy named Ethan who was born with a condition that left him unable to walk on his own. His parents reached out to their community to try to raise $120,000 for a special surgery, out of the country, to try to make it possible for Ethan to take his first unassisted step in his young life. Rock Solid Wrestling decided to join the amazing community that surrounded Ethan, and we were all able to help them reach their goal and get Ethan his surgery. I learned from his mother that only 7 days after the surgery, Ethan took his very first step all on his own. Last night was a VERY special night, because I had the honor and privilege to tell the audience in Bracebridge about Ethan's courageous journey, and then get in the ring and walk around the ring with him as the crowd chanted, "Ethan, Ethan, Ethan!" As the Canadian Heavyweight Champion, I made Ethan the honorary champion for the evening, and the crowd unanimously agreed that Ethan was indeed the TRUE champion. I fought back tears as I watched Ethan walk across the ring on his own and jump up and down while shaking the ropes. Knowing I had to defend my title that night, I was then blessed with a message from Ethan himself (which you can see the video of at Cody Deaner's FACEBOOK PAGE or INSTAGRAM PAGE): "Cody Deaner ... I got your back!" To all my fellow men and women in the wrestling business ... keep your eyes open for moments like this. Every time we perform, we have moments and opportunities of INFLUENCE. When we recognize and act on these opportunities, there's no telling what unique effect we might have on those around us. And to Ethan's family, you are a brave, patient, and lovely group of people. Thanks for allowing me to have that moment with Ethan last night, I'll never forget it. And to Ethan, I hope that one day you'll be able to understand the immense influence you have on people and how many people you have inspired by being such an amazing young boy. Oh ... and I got your back too buddy. I ALWAYS got your back. Sincerely, Cody Deaner" |
