On Saturday, Nov 19th, 2016, Cody Deaner was a surprise guest on CBC Radio's hit show "Sleepover" with Sook-Yin Lee. "Sleepover takes us inside an unusual social encounter, where three complete strangers agree to meet in a hotel room for an evening, night, and morning together. In each episode, with Sook-Yin's guidance, one stranger takes the spotlight and presents a problem from their life. The other two offer advice and bring up related experiences from their own unique perspectives." (from cbc.ca/sleepover) Cody had the following to say on his facebook page about his experience on CBC:
"Awhile back, the producers of CBC's hit radio show and podcast SleepoverCBC contacted me about being a guest on Sook-Yin Lee's special "Power Nap" edition of the live version of their podcast that would be staged at the Hot Docs Podcast Festival in Toronto. I was somewhat hesitant at first ... but am very glad I said yes. Here's why ... The concept of the show is unique and such a fantastic idea. On the show, three strangers from different walks of life stay in a hotel room together overnight. During the sleepover, each guest comes with a problem and your fellow strangers try to help you solve it. This process is usually intimate, funny, deep, and quite frankly ... LONG. They spend 24 hours together! But, this past Saturday ... we did the "power nap" version. We did it LIVE ... and we only had 90 minutes to help each other. What followed was definitely funny, and to my surprise, was also deep and at times intimate. I will not go into details about my problem, the other guests' problems, or how it all unfolded. The live audience got to experience that ... and you will too ... eventually. You'll just have to listen in when it airs on CBC radio to find out all the funny and intimate details! I'll be sure to keep you all posted when it be airing on CBC radio and available for download. In the meantime, you can head on over to cbc.ca/sleepover to learn more about the show and listen to previous episodes. Thank you Sook-Yin, thank you CBC, thank you Hotdocs Theatre, and thank you Toronto. Stay tuned Deaner fans! In the meantime, keep givin'er! Sincerely, Cody Deaner" Stay tuned to CodyDeaner.com for the air date of the show featuring Cody Deaner and his very unique problem. On Saturday Nov 26th, 2016, Cody Deaner surprised a young girl in Oshawa who was celebrating her 11th birthday at a Pro Wrestling Eclipse event. Cody discussed the surprise on his facebook page and had the following to say about it ... "This is Cassandra. And today was her birthday. Awhile back, Cassandra's mother Michelle approached me at a Pro Wrestling Eclipse show in Oshawa and told me that I was Cassandra's favourite wrestler. And she said she wanted to do something special for her daughter for her birthday. She had mentioned bringing a cake of some sort. I thought it was a great idea and honestly thought nothing of it ... until today. Michelle showed up with a custom birthday cake with me and Cassandra on it! Cassandra had no idea this was happening and her mom thought we could maybe surprise her at the merch table at the back of the venue during intermission. I told her, "If we're gonna do this ... we're gonna do this right!" So during my in-ring promo today, we lit the candles and surprised Cassandra by bringing her and the cake right into the ring to sing happy birthday to her. As you can see from her smile in the picture ... we achieved our goal ... to give Cassandra an unforgettable birthday. I've had the unique opportunity to do things like this many time over the years for kids at wrestling shows. This actually wasn't the only happy birthday song I sang to a child this weekend in a promo. Yesterday the crowd and I sang happy birthday to Gavin, who was celebrating his birthday at the Victory Baptist Church #SuperSlam2 event in Newmarket. Unfortunately, I think many people look down their noses at professional wrestling. They see it as a childish and barbaric form of silly entertainment. It isn't. It's a unique COMMUNITY of people who want to have fun and escape the often tough world and just enjoy themselves for a few hours. I'm proud to be a part of this community. And I'm proud to say I'm part of a community that likes to see the smiles on these kids' faces. I'm proud to be a professional wrestler. Happy birthday Cassandra! And happy birthday Gavin!
