Cody Deaner recently returned to Strathroy, Ontario to give an orientation speech to the incoming grade 9 students. He spoke to them about getting involved, not being afraid of trying new things, and to be ready to put in the hard work it takes to achieve their goals.
After the speech, he too the opportunity to visit the developmental education class. He ended up having a special visit. He wrote the following about his visit on his Facebook page: "This is Tanner... After the speech I gave at the Strathroy District Collegiate Institute to some young & energetic youth about daring to #dreamBIG and to always GIV’ER toward your passion, I had the opportunity to visit a Developmental Education class. I took pictures with many of the smiling and super-appreciative young men and women with my Rock Solid Wrestling Canadian Heavyweight Championship belt. Tanner pointed out that my belt was a lot bigger than his. ☺️ So I let him hold mine. I asked Tanner if he wanted to take a selfie with me. He enthusiastically said, “Yeeeeessssss!” Tanner’s awesome. He’s a mover. He’s very energetic and didn’t stop rocking most of the time I was in the room. His teacher said, “Now Tanner, you’re going to have to hold still for this photo.” I took out my phone, put it out in front of us, and Tanner and I gave a prolonged “CHEEEEEEEEEESE!” together as we posed for the photo. Tanner stood perfectly still the entire time. His teacher turned to me and said, “I’ve NEVER seen him stay that still for a photo... ever.” I took that as a huge honour & compliment. I’ve had the privilege of visiting many classrooms like Tanner’s when I go into schools to give motivational speeches. It always ends up being a highlight of my day. Thanks for the picture and the awesome visit Tanner! And thank you to all the teachers and support workers who work with kids like Tanner. What you do is amazing and often under-appreciated. ‘Til next time Tanner... keep smilin’ and keep givin’er buddy! Sincerely, Cody Deaner" To book Cody for a speech at your school or special event, click the link below. Comments are closed.
