I miss performing at wrestling events and seeing their young faces getting absorbed in the action. I miss standing on stage at a school in front of hundreds of eager and engaged kids who end up being inspired by my stories. I've decided I want to do something to stay connected to my young fans in some way. So, for the next few weeks I'm gonna do something fun for my young fans... a colouring contest! A very talented artist, Sue Gray, made this colouring picture for me. So it's simple, colour the page, share it on social media with me tagged in it so I see it, I'll pick a winner, I'll tell everyone why it's awesome, and I'll give you a prize!" Click here to print off a printable .pdf version of the picture: The prize will be:
1) A special shout-out from Cody Deaner on his social media 2) A personal video message from Cody Deaner 3) A "Giv'er for Charity" t-shirt... just like the one in the colouring page! Cody will announce the winner of the contest on August 19th. Have fun! Get colouring! And just GIV'ER! Throughout the months of June to August 2020, Cody Deaner's "Giv'er for Charity" initiative will be raising money for the Every Kid Counts program at the Lansdowne Children's Centre.
Cody Deaner had the following to say about the launch of this years fundraiser on his Facebook page: "A number of years ago, I met an amazing little girl named Regan. She came to me crying after one of my wrestling matches, but I was able to calm her down and wipe away her tears with a gift of an autographed Cody Deaner hat and some kind words. I then learned from her mother how important of a moment this was for Regan. She didn't normally talk to strangers in the way she was talking to me. Why? Because Regan is autistic. I then realized the special connection I had with this little girl - and a relationship was formed. Since that day, I learned about a place that has helped Regan out immensely over the years - The Lansdowne Children's Centre. This centre has a very special program called "Every Kid Counts." The Every Kid Counts program provides children and youth with special needs an equal opportunity to participate in local recreational programs of their choice. Each child/youth is matched with a Support Worker who provides both hands-on and programming support to the child, family and recreation staff. This program is entirely funded by the generous donations of the public. I know that times are tough right now during the economic shutdown amid the coronavirus pandemic. Last year, our fundraiser was able to bring in $3795 for the EKC program. This year, our online goal is to try to raise $1000 during these tough financial times. Any amount you can give will be going straight to this awesome program to help these kids in need. Self-isolation brings about all of its own unique challenges for children with special needs. This program is able to help kids get back out and involved in the community after a long period of being couped up at home and just needing a sense of routine and normalcy. Below are some links to learn more about the EKC program and some info about our past fundraisers: EKC program info: http://www.lansdownecentre.ca/every-kid-counts Cody & Regan share a special moment in a wrestling ring: https://youtu.be/cjdeu2AjL4U 4Brant article on Cody & Regan's fundraiser: http://4brant.com/2018/08/rags-meets-the-redneck-renegade-lansdowne-childrens-centre-gets-the-win/" Although we're living in a pandemic and economic shutdown, that didn't stop the generosity and giving spirit of so many.
During the months of March to May 2020, the "Giv'er for Charity" campaign was able to bring in $1486 for the Rumball Foundation for the Deaf. The original intent of the fundraiser was to raise funds to send kids to the Rumball Camp of the Deaf. However, with camp being shutdown due to the coronavirus, the needs changed. Rumball has many people on the ground helping a variety of people get essential services during these difficult times. The funds from this fundraiser went to bringing essential services to those most in need within the deaf community. "My original goal was to raise $1000," Cody said. "I knew raising a lot of money during these difficult financial times wasn't going to be easy. But the Giv'er for Charity supporters showed their true colours. And those are colours of generosity and kindness. We were able to surpass our goal and we raised $1486 for the fine folks at Rumball. Thank you everyone for your generosity. I know this money will be put to good use." Schools are closing, presentations, conferences and gatherings are being cancelled. I have lost a significant amount of income due to this situation. However, that should not be, and is not my focus at this time.
When I speak to youth, I speak to them about the power of perseverance and how important it is to focus on the positive. So, at this time, I have decided to practice what I preach. Together, we will persevere through these uncertain times. And together, we can focus on the positive. For me personally, I am focusing on my family; keeping them safe and enjoying my extra time with them at home. I am also focusing on different ways I can reach youth with the messages in my programs during a time when these messages are needed more than ever. I want all schools to know that I want to continue to work with schools to think of ways we can be of service to youth to bring them messages of hope and being a positive influence. Whether that be through the use of technology, speaking to smaller gatherings, or other alternate arrangements. Ultimately, I believe we can all get through this together. If we all work together to help one another persevere and focus on the positive, we will all end up better on the other side of this. If any of my past, present or potential future clients want to reach out with questions or ideas of working together for our youth, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at bookcody@codydeaner.com. Stay safe everyone. Sincerely, Cody Deaner Cody Deaner announced that his "Giv'er for Charity" initiative was able to raise $2519 for the Community Living Centre in Oshawa/Clarington.
Money was raised for this special needs program through Cody Deaner merchandise sales at his wrestling and speaking events in October, November, and December. Also, money was raised through special raffles at wrestling events in Oshawa, ON with prizes donated from fans (including wrestling memorabilia, Oshawa Generals hockey tickets, and more). Cody also visited the centre in November to speak to the folks in the program about daring to dream BIG and encouraged them to continue striving for their goals and to continue to do the amazing and inspiring work they're already doing in their community. He sold his "Giv'er for Charity" shirts and also raffled off 4 tickets to an Oshawa Generals hockey game, donated by the generous Generals organization.
The raffle and shirt sales brought in $595 for the evening for the Community Living Oshawa/Clarington not-for-profit organization. Cody is raising money for the organization throughout the months of October and November through merchandise sales at his events as well as a Facebook fundraiser. Cody will also be visiting the Community Living Centres in Oshawa on November 18th to give his "Dare to Dream BIG" presentations to the folks involved in the centre's programs. Cody had the following to say about this special partnership: For well over a decade, I have wrestled in the city of Oshawa, Ontario. I’ve had some of my wildest matches there and have years of memories with their die-hard and dedicated fans. After all my years of wrestling there, I’ve been christened “The King of The ‘Shwa” 👑 I have a special connection with many kids from the City of Oshawa and so many folks from The 'Shwa have supported the numerous charity fundraisers I've done over the years. I've decided I want to give back to this city that has given me so much over the years by helping raise money for an amazing local organization. Many of my most loyal supporters from Oshawa use the services of a local charitable organization called Community Living Oshawa/Clarington(CLOC). CLOC is a charitable organization offering opportunities for personal growth, community inclusion and empowerment to people with developmental disabilities, and their families. CLOC’s vision is for people with developmental disabilities to be included in a community where everyone lives, works, participates, succeeds and flourishes. And we have some special things planned to help raise funds for CLOC: 1) The Oshawa Generals Hockey Club has donated 4 tickets to a game that we will raffle off and donate the 100% $ from the raffle to CLOC. This raffle will happen at the Oct 15th Pro Wrestling Eclipse event at the Oshawa Legion. We also have some autographed collector cards of players to give away in this special raffle. 2) I will be speaking to the community at CLOC on November 18th. I'll be sharing my story of daring to dream BIG and letting everyone at CLOC know their dreams are possible. This special fundraiser will be happening throughout October and November. 100% proceeds from all of my "Giv'er for Charity" merch sold at my wrestling and speaking events will be donated to this amazing charity to help them run their programs. For those who can't make it out to an event in Oct/Nov, I have also set-up this online donation option so folks can get involved. Let's make this fundraiser our best one yet. Let's just not giv'er... Let's giv'er for CHARITY! Sincerely, Cody Deaner For more info on CLOC, visit: http://communitylivingoc.ca/ |
